KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 16-year-old from Kalamazoo was shot and killed Easter Sunday in what police say was an incident involving an online marketplace transaction.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says at about 2:05 p.m. Kevian Andre Rice was killed by gunfire in the 1000 block of Reed Street. Officers responded to the report that a “man was just shot” with a vehicle leaving the scene at a high rate of speed.
When they arrived, officers found Rice suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and rendered emergency medical aid. Officers also located a firearm at the scene.
Rice was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. The vehicle that left the scene was located at an area hospital with two subjects seeking medical treatment for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
KDPS says no further details will be released at this time. No arrests have been made.
