BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Battle Creek Police say both speed and alcohol appear to be factors as a vehicle crashed into the Dollar General on Capital Avenue SW in the early morning hours Thursday.
Officers arrived on scene at 588 Capital Ave. SW, accompanied by LifeCare Ambulance and the Battle Creek Fire Department, shortly after 4:00 a.m.
Police located a 2012 GMC Envoy inside the Dollar General. They say it appeared the vehicle had been traveling southbound along Capital Avenue SW when the driver missed the curve in the road, right near the store. The vehicle then left the road, striking the rear of the Dollar General, and finally coming to a stop inside of the building, causing extensive damage.
BCFD’s Rescue 4 had to free the driver from the crashed vehicle. The driver, an approximately 25-year-old man, was then transported and treated at a local hospital, where he is currently listed in stable condition.
The accident remains under investigation.
