LANSING, MI (WTVB) – It was a slight increase but Kalamazoo County’s unemployment rate went up in February.
According to data released Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, Kalamazoo County’s unemployment rate was at 3.6 percent, up from 3.3 percent in January.
The report stated not seasonally adjusted jobless rates rose in all 17 Michigan labor market areas over the month, according to data released by the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics.
Labor market information director Wayne Rourke said, “Michigan regional labor markets displayed jobless rate increases typical for February. Employment gains were seen in most metro areas during February.”
Labor force levels advanced in 16 Michigan regions over the month. Detroit was the only region to see a labor force decline in February
Unemployment rates went up slightly in neighboring counties. St. Joseph County had a jobless rate of 4.2 percent while it was at 4.5 percent in Calhoun County, 5.5 percent in Van Buren County, 4.5 percent in Cass County, and 3.7 percent in Allegan County.
Michigan’s February unemployment rate dropped slightly to 3.9 percent.
Unemployment rates in February ranged from three percent in Washtenaw County to 18.9 percent in Mackinac County.
