KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo Black History Museum is looking for support from the church community, launching its Church Challenge fundraiser, aimed at raising $300,000 from 1000 churches.
It’s part of an overall effort to raise $30 million for the downtown Kalamazoo museum that organizers say will be a vital part of the community, dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich history and culture of Black Americans.
Reverend William Stein, the museum chairman, said, “Every dollar donated will help us continue our mission of preserving and promoting Black history and culture. We are calling on all churches to join us in this important effort. Together, we can make a real impact on the community and ensure that the rich history and culture of Black Americans is preserved for generations to come.”
The Church Challenge fundraiser is open to all churches and encourages them to donate any amount. It also encourages churches to help spread the word about the fundraiser by sharing information with their congregation and on their social media channels. The fundraiser provides an opportunity for the faith community to come together in support of the museum’s mission.

Organizers said last year they hoped to have the museum open by June 2024.
