LANSING, MI — The might not know exactly where they are going just yet, but 84 members of Lansing-based 272nd Michigan Army National Guard regional support group will deploy to somewhere in the middle east this week. On Sunday morning they had a send-off on their yearlong mission.
Families and dignitaries gathered for the deployment ceremony, with well wishes from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and others. Guard members train year-round before deployment.
“This is an opportunity to wish them well, say goodbye, show our pride in what the service members are going to do,” Major General Paul Roger told WILX-TV in Lansing. “But it’s also an acknowledgement of their service and sacrifice.”
