KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is investigating its second shooting death of the year. Officers responding to a crash late Saturday night in the 900 block of Jackson Street in the Edison Neighborhood discovered that the driver had been shot.
Emergency treatment failed to save the 25-year-old male from Kalamazoo. It’s being investigated as a homicide.
Kalamazoo state Representative Julie Rogers had already scheduled a town hall meeting on community violence for tomorrow evening.
Rogers, a practicing healthcare worker, says she has seen the impact of violence first hand and knows that it’s just a symptom of larger community issues, and the pain goes beyond the immediate wounds.
She says the event will be held at the Kalamazoo Public Library downtown location.
So far the local statistics on violence are headed in the right direction this year, and Rogers says she is encouraged that with the “Blueprint for Peace” now in place, Kalamazoo has a roadmap to make additional improvements.
