KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Public Schools superintendent Dr. Darrin Slade says he is starting a strategic planning process for the district and he wants, and needs parents to participate.
Slade plans to hold a district wide meeting with parents on April 18th and separate sessions at each school in the district during April and May, to find out what is working in the district and what isn’t.
He says he wants to find out what parents think.
Slade says he feels they have a dedicated staff, excellent programs, strong support from the community, and a lot of diversity.
On the negative side they still need to boost student scores.
He says they also need to boost parental participation, and improve communication.
That is one of the reasons for these public forums.
Next week, the district will be on spring break.
After that they will begin announcing dates, times and locations for the frank discussions.
