KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Construction is scheduled to begin today on the reconstruction of the
Inkster Bridge in Kalamazoo, with completion expected around Labor Day.
The new bridge will be made of concrete, provide two-way traffic for all bridge users, and include the several improvements:
-A wider (8 ft) elevated sidewalk that will connect to existing sidewalk in the neighborhood
-Design elements informed by community input including a natural stone wall base and inset panel bridge railing
-Lighting installed on the bridge and below the bridge.
During construction, Bronson Blvd will be closed so that the bridge and be deconstructed and rebuilt.
City officials say they expect to be able to reopen Bronson before the Inkster Bridge is completed (before Labor Day) and will work to open it as soon as possible.
While Bronson is closed, traffic will be detoured via Howard and Kilgore to Oakland.
