COLDWATER, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A Kalamazoo man has been charged following a high speed chase with the Michigan State Police in Branch County last Saturday.
27-year-old Darqareion Damont Mills was formally charged Tuesday in Branch County District Court with fourth degree fleeing and eluding from a police officer.
According to Branch County court documents, Michigan State Police troopers were on I-69 in Girard Township when they saw two vehicles traveling at 112 miles an hour.
A trooper managed to get one of the vehicles stopped but the other one drove off. Troopers observed the license plate which said “D MILLS”.
The vehicle that left the scene was eventually cited on a speeding violation in Calhoun County for driving 93 miles an hour.
State Police say Mills later returned to the scene of the first traffic stop in Branch County in an attempt to pick up the other vehicle that had stopped.
He was placed under arrest and lodged at the Branch County Jail.
Bond was set at $15,000 and a not guilty plea was entered during his arraignment.
A probable cause hearing was set for March 21 with a preliminary exam March 27, 2024.
