PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Five juveniles are recovering after being injured in the crash of a Dodge Ram pickup truck Tuesday evening.
They were riding in the bed of the truck when the 35-year-old driver, a man from Kalamazoo, was speeding on Eagle Court and turned east onto Mallard Circle and kept going fast.
He lost control of the truck and hit a tree head-on and at least one person in the back of the truck was thrown.
Portage Public Safety had to extricate the driver and he injured a firefighter before trying to run off. He was caught and also taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Portage officials say they will request several charges against him and say alcohol is believed to have been a factor.
None of the five juveniles suffered life-threatening injuries.
