BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – After initially believing there were no injuries in a Monday morning house fire, Battle Creek authorities say a body was found in the home Tuesday.
Crews with the Battle Creek Fire Department were called to house fire on 22nd Street near 23rd Street around 3:12 a.m. Monday. They found fire and smoke coming from the back of the house.
Firefighters quickly put out the flames and after two searches, said the house was unoccupied.
Tuesday though, fire inspectors found a body inside one of the bedrooms of the house.
The Battle Creek police and fire departments are investigating, but they say at this point it’s unclear how the person died.
