KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Spring has not yet officially sprung, but construction season gets underway today in Kalamazoo.
That includes work on Westnedge, Whites Road, and the replacement of the Inkster Street bridge, which will mean closures on Bronson Boulevard.
Kalamazoo Utilities Director James Baker says they will be replacing everything from the sewer mains below to the traffic signals above on all the big projects.
He says they will also complete Ransom Road, which began last year.
This year they will be replacing and re-purposing the century old brick paving on Ransom.
All the projects will mean road closures, lane restrictions and detours.
Traffic on Westnedge will be southbound only during construction. The posted detour will be Burdick Street. Whites Road is being converted from four lanes to 2 traffic lanes, with turn lanes and bike lanes added. Traffic will be detoured to Kilgore.
The work on the bridge may be completed late this summer/early fall but the others aren’t expected to wrap up until Halloween.
