GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Former Congressman Justin Amash is officially running for the Republican nomination for Michigan’s U.S. Senate seat.
Amash is rejoining the Republican Party after he switched to being a Libertarian while serving in the U.S. House due to his disagreements with party leaders and then-President Trump. Amash is the third former Congressman to enter the race after Mike Rogers and Pete Meijer. Earlier this year he had announced an exploratory committee.
Businessman and Senate candidate Sandy Pensler says Rogers and Amash “have spent five years bashing Trump openly and Meijer voted for impeachment,” and added he is the only pro-Trump candidate that can win.
