LANSING, MI — Mid-Michigan appears to escaped serious damage from last night’s storms that cross the area around midnight. Consumers Energy is reporting a pocket of power outages between Olivet and Battle Creek, just southwest of Lansing, and there was two-inch size hail reported just east of Battle Creek.
A tornado struck the Grand Blanc area early Wednesday and knocked out power to residents and businesses, police said. The Grand Blanc Township Police Department’s Facebook page says that the tornado struck the area at about 1:20 a.m. knocking down powerlines and trees. There were no reports of injuries or deaths.
A preliminary report from the National Weather Service confirmed a tornado is likely in Grand Blanc, but NWS won’t have data on the scale and impact of the storm until a survey team investigates, according to a report in the Detroit News.
