KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Tuesday is the presidential primary election in Michigan.
Predictions last year that the early primary could have a big impact have been something of a bust, with the race appearing to be headed for a rematch between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, unless something dramatic happens.
It has been the first tryout of new election reforms approved by Michigan voters in the fall of 2022. Voters have had the opportunity statewide to not only vote early by absentee ballot, but in person at polling places set up 9 days before the primary, and free postage and drop-off boxes to return absentee ballots.
Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners Vice Chair John Taylor says its meant a lot of extra work for municipal clerks.
It has given the clerks a chance to give the new practices and procedures a tryout. They will get one more opportunity during the August primary, before the big election this November.
