CADILLAC, MI — Media Partner Six News WLNS reports a Lansing man has been arraigned on a charge of leaving a crash causing serious injury or death in the northern Michigan county of Missaukee.
Michigan State Police report John Lynn Major, 37, of Lansing allegedly struck a bicyclist on Jan. 15. The cyclist suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized in the intensive care unit at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City for several days, according to WLNS.
The collision occurred on M-55 outside Cadillac. The 36-year-old cyclist told law enforcement he was struck by a pick up truck. He said the truck slowed after hitting him, but then drove off. Evidence collected at the scene sent law enforcement looking for a 2017-2019 Chevrolet or GMC pickup. MSP received a tip about a vehicle in a tow yard in Alma with damage consistent with the crash. Troopers were able to identify a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado that had damage consistent with the evidence collected at the scene.
From the identification of the vehicle, troopers were able to obtain a warrant for Major’s arrest. He turned himself in at the Missaukee County Jail Tuesday and was arraigned in court.
