KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo city commissioners met all day Saturday at their annual retreat to begin setting priorities for 2025’s aspirational projects.
They picked five specific programs from a list of a couple dozen presented to them by staff.
They include continued focus on curbing teen gun violence and a homeshare program to provide affordable housing.
Assistant City Manager Rebeka Kik says this gives them time to start planning.
Major Dave Anderson says these priorities are what they will pursue after they have made sure that they have funded all other critical city operations like maintaining the infrastructure, making sure the plumbing works and providing police and fire protection, among others.
He says their priorities may also change if events warrant during the coming year.
Commissioners will get an update on what they discussed at the retreat at a meeting in April.
