WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States is taking steps to impose visa restrictions on more than 100 Nicaraguan municipal officials for their role in the government of President Daniel Ortega, the State Department said in a statement on Friday.
Washington said the actions were aimed promoting accountability for people involved in the Ortega administration’s “relentless attacks on the human rights and fundamental freedoms of Nicaraguans.”
