SAUGATUCK TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The state Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy has denied a permit to developers who are proposing a new private marina near Saugatuck.
EGLE took exception to the permit due to the wildlife that depend on the Kalamazoo River ecosystem.
NorthShore of Saugatuck has been told by the state the marina basin project would “permanently impact the critical dune area and result in the loss of a significant portion of the open dune habitat in Saugatuck Township.”
The developers are disappointed with the denial and say the same application received EGLE approval in 2018.
