KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The director of Kalamazoo’s tourism bureau has big plans that go beyond the promotion of the new downtown Event Center.
Discover Kalamazoo CEO Jane Ghosh says another major project she would like to see is an indoor amateur sports center that would attract volleyball and basketball tournaments, and be used by the community in between. She says right now wrestling and hockey tournaments are major money makers for the community, because we have the facilities.
She says the goal for her office is to generate 3% of the state’s overall tourism right here in Kalamazoo by 2030.
Ghosh says even though ground hasn’t even been broken on the new $300-million concert and sports venue downtown, they have already begun promoting it.
She says it will take facilities like the new Event Center and a tournament site to achieve their goal.
Ghosh says the governor’s annual Conference on Tourism will be held in Kalamazoo in early April, giving the community a chance to show off its amenities and its plans.
