PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – With current 40th District State Representative Christine Morse announcing a run for the newly created open seat in Kalamazoo County’s 9th Circuit Court, a Portage doctor has announced his bid for the seat.
Dr. Matt Longjohn, who previously ran in 2018 for the congressional seat previously held by Fred Upton, made his announcement Friday.
In his campaign kickoff statement, Longjohn said, “I believe I can make a significant impact on the health of all Michiganders by serving as a representative of my community in Lansing. In the State House, I’ll fight for the things that will improve the health and quality of life for everyone in my district, including accessible, equitable, and affordable health care, clean air and water, and educational and economic opportunities.”
Morse is currently serving in her second term as State Representative and is Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. She previously served on the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners.
If elected, Longjohn says he would be the only physician in the Michigan legislature.
