IOWA CITY, IA (WKZO AM/FM) – Former Western Michigan University football coach Tim Lester has been hired as the new offensive coordinator for the University of Iowa.
Lester coached the Broncos for six seasons before being fired at the end of the 2022 campaign and had a 37-32 record with WMU.
He spent the past season as an offensive analyst for the Green Bay Packers.
Lester was the offensive coordinator for Syracuse in 2014 and 2015, but they went just 5-14 during his time there.
He will replace Brian Ferentz, the son of Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz, who was fired last October but coached the offense through their bowl game at the end of the year.
The Hawkeyes were last in NCAA football in yards per game last season and only Kent State University scored fewer points a game than Iowa.
The Hawkeyes start their season August 31 against Illinois State.
