LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Republican lawmakers are ripping Governor Whitmer’s 2024 State of the State address.
House Republican Leader Matt Hall says she “played all her greatest hits. But even all strung together in a primetime performance, her set list clearly has no cohesive theme or plan for actually solving problems in our state.”
The Richland lawmaker added her hand-picked population council “issued a scathing report illuminating the failures of the Whitmer administration.”
Hall did credit Whitmer for following his lead in calling for a tax credit to incentivize research and development careers in the state and says spurring innovation needs to be part of Michigan’s comprehensive growth strategy.
He says with the House evenly split between Republicans and Democrats, she needs to work with them to craft a plan to solve the state’s greatest challenges.
State Representative Pauline Wendzel of Van Buren County said Whitmer’s “entire speech was gaslighting Michigan residents into thinking she actually has a plan for long-term growth and making life more affordable for our residents.”
Hall noted she talked more about the Detroit Lions than any substantive plan on issues.
