ELOY, AZ (WTVB) – A Michigan native was one of four persons who died in a hot air balloon crash Sunday morning near Eloy, Arizona.
28-year-old Chayton Wiescholek from Union City was among those who died as a result of the crash.
A Go Fund Me page has been established to help pay for Wiescholek’s funeral and memorials. It’s hoped $15,000 can be raised.
The other victims were identified as 28-year-old Kaitlynn Bartrom from Andrews, Indiana; 24-year-old Atahan Kiliccote from Cupertino, California and 37-year-old Cornelius Van Der Walt who was originally from Walvis Bay, Namibia and residing in Eloy, AZ. He was identified as the pilot.
Another one of the balloon occupants was critically injured.
The Eloy Police Department said the balloon was operated by Droplyne Hot Air Balloon Rides and was carrying 13 people at the time of the take off. This included eight skydivers, four passengers, and the pilot.
Authorities say the skydiving was intentional and was successfully completed by all of the skydivers before any issues with the hot air balloon were evident.
Eloy Police are working with the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration in the investigation of this incident.
