BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – With the approaching winter storm, the City of Battle Creek has announced administrative offices will close at noon Friday, January 12, and a snow emergency will be declared starting at 3:00 p.m. Friday.
The Battle Creek area could see eight inches of snow or more. In addition, high winds, with gusts over 40 and up to 55 mph, could cause significant blowing and drifting snow, and power outages.
Following this storm, the forecast calls for temperatures in the teens, colder wind chills, and lake-effect snow next week.
City facilities are closed on Monday, Jan. 15 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Full Blast Recreation Center will close at noon Friday, and remain closed Saturday, January 13. It will reopen Sunday for regular hours of 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and is open Monday.
Residents parked on the streets will have until 3:00 p.m. Friday to move their vehicles. After that, Battle Creek Police will work to make contact with the registered owners of vehicles still on the streets. Police will have vehicles towed as a last resort, at the owner’s expense.
State routes and major roads are the first priority for snow plowing. Crews will move back and forth between major roads and neighborhood streets as much as necessary.
