KALAMAZOO, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Forecasters for the National Weather Service now have a better idea of exactly how much snow can be expected from a major winter storm which is expected to hit the region on Friday and Saturday.
They are now calling for a total snow accumulation of over eight inches. In addition, winds could gust as high as 45 mph late Friday night into Saturday.
Numerous southwest Michigan counties are included in a Winter Storm Watch on Thursday morning which is in effect from 10:00 a.m. Friday morning through 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Travel is expected to be very difficult to impossible Friday night into Saturday which is when the worst conditions will take place.
Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday evening commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.
If that’s not bad enough, bitter cold Arctic air and additional heavy lake effect snow will follow this system. Hazardous winter weather will likely continue through the remainder of the weekend into early next week.
