RICHLAND TWP., MI (WKZO-AM/FM) – A 20-year-old Allegan woman lost her life in a two-vehicle crash Sunday morning northwest of Richland.
According to the Michigan State Police, troopers and other first responders were dispatched around 8:40 a.m. to the area of M-89 near EB Avenue.
That was where an eastbound sedan apparently lost control in inclement weather conditions, crossed over the center line, and slammed head-on into a westbound pickup truck.
The woman driving the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other driver involved, a 41-year-old Plainwell man, was taken to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Troopers believe that the sedan motorist had been driving too fast for conditions at the time; both drivers were buckled up; and that alcohol or drugs didn’t initially appear to be a contributing factor.
No names were immediately disclosed, and M-89 was blocked off for about three hours as a result of the crash, which remains under investigation.
