KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo city commissioners will be doing a deep dive into next year’s budget at a special session this afternoon.
City Manager Jim Ritsema’s staff is actually proposing nearly 5% less spending in the coming year due to fewer capital improvement projects planned for 2024.
That’s about $14-million less.
Ritsema says the date for final approval has been changed to January 22nd, to accommodate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday activities the week before.
Mayor Dave Anderson says there will be plenty of opportunity for public comment on the budget, including a public hearing on January 2nd,

Total spending planned next year is $288-million.
