KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 15-year-old who fired a handgun in the air has been arrested, thanks to a Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety K9.
At approximately 6:55 a.m. Friday KDPS was called to 700 block of West Cedar Street on the report of a family disturbance. A witness reported that an argument started over the teen who was in possession of a handgun.
The juvenile suspect reportedly went outside into the driveway and fired one shot into the air and then fled the scene before police arrived.
K9 Ace and his handler, who recently completed K9 certification, tracked the suspect for over one hour before locating him hiding under a porch of a residence. The suspect was found to be in possession of a live round at the time of arrest however, the handgun used in this incident has not been located.
The juvenile is lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home on multiple charges.
