KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The capital campaign for the Kalamazoo Nonprofit Advocacy Coalition (KNAC) received a boost Wednesday night, being awarded $18,300 from Guys Who Give of Kalamazoo at their quarterly meeting.
KNAC is a nonprofit organization formed in 2017 to preserve the historic First Baptist Church building in downtown Kalamazoo. They plan to transform it into a space for artists, entrepreneurs, and community organizations.
The organization is currently in the midst of an $11 million capital campaign that will modernize and improve the nearly 30,000-square-foot building, which is the oldest public building in Kalamazoo.
Upon completion of renovations, KNAC will showcase four performing arts venues coupled with a distinctive array of below-market rental opportunities for nonprofits, for-profits, and entrepreneurs of all types.
Executive Director Matt Claus said “This building is already transforming into one of the most unique and vibrant spaces in Kalamazoo where diverse groups and individuals interact and organically support each other. It’s exciting when groups like Guys Who Give of Kalamazoo are able to recognize the value this project delivers to Kalamazoo.”
Guys Who Give is a group that helps local charities by providing funds they need to do important work. The group donates over $10,000 to a different chosen local charity each quarter. The organization has 17 chapters, including the one in Kalamazoo County that selected KNAC for this award.
Jeff Ross, of Jeff K. Ross Financial Services, is co-chair of KNAC’s capital campaign and a member of Guys Who Give of Kalamazoo. Ross’s pitch at the group’s November 2023 meeting garnered the most votes, resulting in this award for KNAC.
