MARSHALL, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A home in Marshall was damaged by a fire which broke out in a fireplace on Monday night.
Marshall Fire Chief Martin Erskine says crews left the Marshall Christmas Parade around 7:30 p.m. and responded to the fire on East Hughes Street.
Firefighters got the fire under control within ten minutes. The wood-burning fireplace is believed to be original to the home, but Erskine says the homeowners are new and did not know the last time it had been used. He says the fireplace had not been inspected.
The home was not destroyed and repairs will be made but for the time being, the family will not be able to live in the residence.
Erskine says they are investigating the cause of the fire.
