SPRINGFIELD, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A 25-year-old man from Springfield was injured late Monday night after he was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says the crash was reported at about 11:17 p.m. in the area of North Helmer Road and Upton Avenue in the City of Springfield.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 25-year-old man from Battle Creek. The bicyclist was transported to a hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment and at last report was listed in stable condition.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office did not release the names of the two men involved in the crash.
An initial investigation by the Accident Reconstruction Team indicates the bicyclist was traveling north in the right-hand lane of the road. The passenger vehicle was also traveling north in the right-hand lane. As the driver approached the bicyclist, investigators say he was unable to stop in time or avoid the collision.
The Springfield Fire Department and LifeCare Ambulance assisted at the scene.
