KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo City Commission will meet twice Monday as they cope with new election rules that have delayed the seating of the 55th Commission.
Mayor Dave Anderson says new rules to accommodate voters means it takes a little longer than it has in the past to certify elections. The new rule allows six days after the election for mail-in ballots to arrive.
Complicating the situation is a requirement in the City Charter that the Commission meet twice each month.
Election winners from earlier this month will sworn-in at 5:00 p.m. Monday, and then the City Commission will hold a brief business meeting at 7:00 p.m.
Anderson was reelected to the top job. Incumbent commissioners Chris Preadel and Jeanne Hess have new four year terms, and Alonzo Wilson II will take the oath for the first time.
