PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Saturday is Veterans Day.
This year they have something to cheer with the passage of a new Kalamazoo County millage that will allow indigent vets to get access to more services and assistance.
Local veteran Mike Quinn, who was appointed to fill a temporary vacancy on the Portage City Council used his time on the council to remember a fellow Marine vet who recently died by his own hand.
He says life can be difficult for veterans who served in combat in Iraq, and had to cope with the effects of IEDs.
Quinn says it can leave vets with PTSD and other problems.
He says his friend was buried Friday morning at Fort Custer.
