KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – David Anderson was re-elected to another two year term as Kalamazoo mayor, defeating challenger John Allen 7,060-1,843 in Tuesday’s General Election. Current city commissioners Jeanne Hess and Chris Praedel were reelected, along with newcomer Alonzo Wilson. Esteven Juarez lost in reelection bid.
In Portage, Mayor Patricia Randall won another term with 7,084 votes with write-in candidates including Lisa Brayton getting 1,347. Christopher Burns, James Pearson, and Nicole Miller won the four year Portage city council seats. Jihan Ain Young was fourth highest vote getter, so will fill the remaining two years of an open seat on the council.
The Kalamazoo County Veterans Millage was passed with wide support, and city of Kalamazoo voters approved ranked choice voting for city officials by nearly 4,000 votes.
A fire millage in Richland Township, a charter millage in Kalamazoo Township, and a Parchment School District operating millage were all approved.
The Parchment city council election was won by Justin Mendoza, Robin Madaras, and Douglas Fooy.
