CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Calhoun County residents are being encouraged by the county’s health department to take part in a public survey from the Michigan Opioid Advisory Commission as they try to determine the most effective and equitable distribution of settlement funds aimed at addressing the opioid crisis in the state.
A public input survey is available at www.surveymonkey.com which will help determine where the general public feels these funds should be spent.
The Public Health Department says Calhoun County is negatively impacted by the opioid epidemic. From 2015 to 2021, the number of fatal opioid overdoses has increased almost every year, from 42 fatal overdoses in 2015 to 60 fatal overdoses in 2021.
Officials say this survey is completely anonymous and that the survey results will play a significant role in developing an inclusive and effective approach to address the opioid crisis.
In collaboration with community groups, the Public Health Department says they aim to leverage the survey results and the funds received from the state to address the needs in the community.
