KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Many voters in Kalamazoo County will have only one issue on Tuesday’s November ballot. That’s a request from the Veterans Affairs committee to increase property taxes to fund their services. County Board member Michael Fry says right now their annual funding runs out long before the end of the year, for emergency support services for indigent veterans.
He says they are asking for a tenth of a mill.
Republican County Commissioner John Gisler says he almost never supports tax hikes, but he backs this one.
So far the measure has the support of most local municipalities.
