KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Police have a suspect in custody after a Saturday shooting that led to the 20th homicide of the year in Kalamazoo.
At approximately 12:25 p.m., officers with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety were dispatched for a shots fired call in the 800 block of Woodbury Avenue. They found 35-year-old Kemberlyn Dwayne Trotman with a gunshot wound to the head. He was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Witnesses told officers that the suspect, later identified as 36-year-old Laquay Lee Woodford-Paige, had two firearms, one in each hand. Multiple casings were found near the scene.
Shortly after the shooting, officers arrested Woodford-Paige near the 500 block of Prouty Street. He was arraigned Monday on a charge of Discharging Into A Dwelling Causing Death. His bond was set at $500,000.
KDPS says the investigation remains open, and they are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the Criminal Investigation Division at (269)337-8139.
