LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Legislation that sets new energy standards for utility companies is headed to Governor Whitmer’s desk. The state House voted along party lines Thursday night on the bills that establishes 100% clean energy standards by 2040 and requires utility companies to achieve annual electric energy efficiency savings. Democratic Representative Julie Brixie voted for the bills.
Republicans like Representative Andrew Beeler voted no, saying the the shift to less reliable power sources would increase the likelihood of blackouts and higher electricity bills, something Brixie calls nonsense.
