PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Another twist has been thrown into Portage’s year long search for a home for an expanded Farmer’s Market. The city council was set to move forward with a facility next to the new Senior Center when councilman Terry Urban said a city owned wooded lot at Romence Road and Lovers Lane has more room.
Mayor Patricia Randall says there is already parking and bathrooms at the Senior Center site. They would have to spend millions more to install them at a vacant lot.
Urban was able to convince three other members to at least take a look at costs at his location and apologized because he had only remembered the city owned that property late Tuesday night. The council voted to do both and will get a rough estimate at the Lovers Lane site and move forward on the Senior Center location to see how it shakes out.
