PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Portage City Council will be asked tonight to approve the location of a new Farmer’s Market next to the new Senior Center.
City Manager Patrick McGinnis is recommending the site after several community meetings and staff research into possible locations.
They also did a survey to find out what vendors and customers would prefer. McGinnis says there are several advantages to this site.
The city already owns the lots. They wouldn’t have to build new bathrooms, they can use the ones in the Senior Center, and its located in the city center, the site preferred by most of the survey respondents.
The city has received a $1.75 million grant from the state to help fund it. If approved tonight, city staff would start working on bid specifications.
