KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Public Schools has received their audit for the past school year and they came out clean.
There had been concerns because they had to fire their previous operations director last fall for some questionable activities and expenditures.
Auditor Sherrie Blankenship with Maner Costerisan says they went through the books and gave the district a clean bill of health.
In fact she said the district will once again win an award from the Association for School Business Officials for their books.
Board president Ti’ana Harrison thanked financial director Laura Kayser for taking over the district’s financial management late last year.
Blankenship noted that the district had a healthier than usual fund balance, mainly because of the Pandemic. Between federal COVID-19 dollars and lower costs when the district went to on-line learning, it pumped up their bottom line. She says most districts have gotten the same benefit.
