CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A crash involving two semis shut down a nearly six mile stretch of both sides of I-94 in Calhoun County on Wednesday morning.
The Michigan Department of Transportation reports the crash took place just before 4:30 a.m., on eastbound I-94 at Exit 100, near Beadle Lake Road where road construction is taking place.
MDOT says eastbound and westbound I-94 between Exits 98 and 104 had to be shut down. The interstate between exits 100 and 104 reopened later in the morning.
The two miles stretch between exits 98 and 100 reopened during the early afternoon.
Emmett Township police told WWMT-TV that a westbound semi swerved to avoid a construction barrel and hit another semi. Both trucks then went through the concrete median and into the eastbound lanes.
No serious injuries were reported. The crash forced the Harper Creek School District to shut down for the day.
