PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Portage City Council is up to full strength now that the board has appointed Mike Quinn to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Lisa Brayton.
Council Member Chris Burns says he was weighing whether to pick someone new, or someone with experience from the 13 applicants, and opted for a nominee who knew his way around a meeting agenda, just in case something critical comes up.
Other council members said they felt the same way, and unanimously picked Quinn. Mayor Patricia Randall immediately gave him the oath of office.
Quinn thanked the council, saying he takes public service very seriously.
Quinn will serve for exactly one meeting on November 1. A permanent replacement will be picked by voters the following week, during regular city elections.
Brayton resigned because of a dispute over whether she was a legal resident of the city. She reapplied for the temporary spot, but was apparently not considered.
