KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 31-year-old Kalamazoo man is facing an open murder charge for the shooting that left 35-year-old Tyrone Potts dead in the parking lot of the now-closed Circle K at West Lovell Street and Oakland Drive September 28.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says they arrested Brendan Smith Monday and he has been charged. One other person was shot but is expected to recover.
Surveillance video from a nearby home shows a white SUV pulling next to a black SUV in the parking lot and then nine shots are heard before the white SUV left.
Bond for Smith was denied. Police added that whether Smith and Potts knew one another remains under investigation, but that the shooting does not appear to have been random.
