PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Portage City Council has an opening that they plan to fill tomorrow to replace former Council Member Lisa Brayton who resigned last month after her residency was challenged.
There are 13 applicants interested in the post. The council members will pick from among them. They are required to fill the post within 90-days.
Among the applicants is Lisa Brayton, who reapplied for reasons that aren’t exactly clear. She had been running for mayor in next month’s election, but also reportedly bowed out of that when a police investigation into her residency was begun. Brayton’s husband says the address she gave in her filing papers was supposed to be completed by the filing deadline, but it wasn’t.
Also among the applicants is an investigative analyst, a nonprofit CEO, a barista, an architect, a semi-retired printer, a detective, a bookkeeper, a banker, a county deputy treasurer, a quality control engineer, a retiree, and retired former County Commissioner Mike Quinn.
The meeting is at 7:00 pm, but this item is the last one on the agenda.
