Three Rivers residents worried about lead-contaminated water

THREE RIVERS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Three Rivers residents are worried about lead-contaminated water over two months after testing found the excessive levels of lead in the city’s water. At a Monday meeting, two city commissioners told them the city is doing all it can to help with Commissioner Torrey Brown saying water rates are up due to the cost of testing all water pipes. The commission also plans to ask lawmakers for more funding to replace lead pipes. Many residents say they have not received any answers, and nurse Laura Armstrong says her vegetables died this year because of the water. Water filters are available from the city and the city’s source water wells have not tested positive for lead contamination. The city says the six homes where there are elevated lead levels are likely due to interior plumbing or the water service line.
