PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Portage City Council has an opening for a temp job….a really temporary one. They need to fill a vacancy on the council to replace Lisa Brayton, who quit after her residency was challenged. Mayor Patricia Randall says anyone who is interested can go to the city website and fill out the same application they use for other city boards.
Qualifications include that you live in the city of Portage and are not running for one of the other vacancies that will be decided next month at the polls.
They will pick the replacement at their next meeting, and the winner may only actually serve for one or two meetings. A permanent replacement will also be picked by voters next month. The city charter requires they fill the post within 60 days. The winning applicant may not get a lot of on-the-job experience, but it looks great on a resume.
