KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – There is growing frustration with the City of Kalamazoo’s Streets for All Program as traffic lanes are being replaced by bike lanes on major city streets.
It’s becoming a campaign issue with the mayor and three commissioners up for reelection next month.
Kalamazoo City Commissioners tonight will be asked to hire a public relations firm to run a three year campaign to put a positive spin on the street changes at a cost of $285,000. Mayoral candidate John Allen thinks it’s a poor use of taxpayer’s dollars.
Allen says the whole drive of the Streets for All program is based on a flawed pre-COVID-19 poll that showed support for bikes and walking, over cars.
City Manager Jim Ritsema says the proposal to hire Gud Marketing of Lansing to “inspire everyone to come on this journey with us.”
Waste of taxpayers money
This is a horrible idea. Advertising is not going to change my mind, but spending this money so wastefully will only antagonize me. Better think again.
