KALAMAZOO, MICH (WKZO AM/FM) – The president of Western Michigan University is getting a raise and a big bonus, but part-time professors at WMU say their latest offer is the equivalent of taking a pay cut. Dr. Edward Montgomery received his annual evaluation at this week’s Board of Trustees meeting. Trustee Alan Turfe noted Montgomery’s success at increasing freshman enrollment numbers as one justification for a 3% increase in his base pay.
Tim Bober with the Professional Instructor’s Organization says they make half of what full professors make, working the same hours, teaching the same courses, and their latest offer doesn’t even keep up with inflation.
Negotiations between WMU and the union are underway.
